Former NASCAR Driver Matt Tifft Leads Multi-Event Revival of Historic Track

Matt Tifft, a former NASCAR driver and Medina native, is spearheading the revival of the historic Mansfield Speedway, aiming for a grand reopening in May 2026.

Since acquiring the 180-acre property earlier this year, Tifft has been dedicated to transforming the once-dormant track into a vibrant hub for motorsports and entertainment.

"We have about 7,000 yards of clay coming down from Fremont in the next several days, about 600 dump truck loads," Tifft stated, highlighting the extensive efforts to restore the track's surface.

In addition to track renovations, Tifft secured approval from the Mansfield Planning Commission for a new, $1 million Jumbotron screen, enhancing the fan experience.

The community's enthusiasm has been palpable.

"The community support has been amazing," Tifft remarked, noting the widespread recognition and backing from racing fans nationwide.

The 2026 season promises a diverse array of events.

The opening weekend, scheduled for May 2-3, will feature Dirt Late Models, FAST Sprint Cars, and UMP Modifieds, culminating in the first "Night of Destruction."

Later in the month, on May 29-30, the track will host the inaugural visit of the World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series, with a $57,000-to-win feature race.

Beyond racing, Tifft plans to diversify the schedule with motocross, monster truck shows, concerts, drifting events, car shows, and community activities like fireworks displays.

"We're really trying to diversify our schedule to make sure that we can handle the Ohio weather," Tifft explained, emphasizing the importance of offering events that can proceed rain or shine.

Reflecting on the journey, Tifft acknowledged the challenges of construction and logistics but remains optimistic.

"Everything's on time, and I'd say we're still, in a lot of aspects, further along than I thought we would have been," he said.

As the countdown to the 2026 season continues, the revival of Mansfield Speedway stands as a testament to Tifft's commitment and the community's unwavering support.
