Federal operation leads to detentions at local restaurant |
On Thursday, October 9, 2025, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) conducted an operation at Panchos Tacos, a popular restaurant located at 110 Mount Vernon Avenue in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
The operation commenced around 11 a.m., prior to the restaurant's opening hours.
According to building owner Tim Carper, several employees were detained and removed from the premises during the action.
Carper also reported that one worker sustained an injury during the incident.
The exact number of employees detained and their current whereabouts remain undisclosed.
The Mount Vernon Police Department was present at the scene by approximately 6 p.m., alongside Carper.
However, city officials have stated that the local police were not involved in the HSI operation and were not informed about its timing or scope beforehand.
In a statement released on Friday, city officials clarified that the operation was conducted by HSI, following initial reports attributing the action to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The city emphasized that neither the Mount Vernon Police Department, the Office of the Law Director, nor the Knox County Sheriff's Office received prior communication or coordination from federal officials regarding the operation.
As of now, Panchos Tacos has announced a temporary closure until further notice.
The community awaits further details as the situation develops. |
