Local Doctors Return to Ashland and Mansfield to Serve Their Communities

Drs. Kochheiser and Coovert bring personalized care back to their hometowns

Deciding where to establish a medical practice is a significant choice for healthcare professionals.

For Dr. Matthew Kochheiser and Dr. Brittany Coovert, both OhioHealth primary care physicians, the decision was clear: return to their roots in north central Ohio.

Dr. Kochheiser, a native of Bellville and alumnus of Clear Fork High School, pursued his undergraduate studies at Mount Vernon Nazarene University.

He earned his medical degree from Ohio University's Dublin Campus and completed his residency at OhioHealth Dublin Methodist Hospital.

Reflecting on his journey, Dr. Kochheiser shared, "It's always been a goal of mine to come back to the area that I grew up in."

He emphasized the importance of community connection in primary care, stating, "Being rooted in your community is a key element in what makes primary care so critical in our health system."

Similarly, Dr. Coovert, an Ashland High School graduate, attended The Ohio State University for her undergraduate education.

She then obtained her medical degree from Ohio University's Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her residency at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital.

Dr. Coovert expressed her deep connection to Ashland, saying, "There's just something about the community here. The people are good people. They really care about each other, they care about the community, they care about their families. And I just knew that that's where I wanted to practice."

Both physicians are committed to preventive care and chronic disease management.

Dr. Kochheiser has a special interest in lifestyle medicine, sports medicine, and utilizes osteopathic manipulation treatments to enhance musculoskeletal function.

Dr. Coovert focuses on pediatrics, geriatrics, and managing chronic illnesses such as diabetes and hypertension.

Dr. Coovert is currently accepting new patients, from newborns to older adults, at the OhioHealth Ashland Health Center.

Appointments can be scheduled by calling 567-309-6560.

Dr. Kochheiser is welcoming new patients aged three and up at the OhioHealth Physician Group Primary Care building located at 558 S Trimble Road in Mansfield.

To book an appointment, call 419-524-1410.

Their return aligns with ongoing community development efforts.

In 2024, OhioHealth invested over $265 million into the Mansfield and Shelby communities, enhancing healthcare facilities and services.

Additionally, Mansfield's Main Street Corridor Improvement project aims to revitalize the downtown area, making it more pedestrian-friendly and vibrant.

These initiatives reflect a broader commitment to improving the quality of life and healthcare access in the region.

Drs. Kochheiser and Coovert's dedication to their hometowns exemplifies the positive impact of healthcare professionals returning to serve their communities.

Their presence not only enhances local healthcare but also strengthens the community bonds that make Ashland and Mansfield unique.
