Ohio Introduces Child Care Cred Program to Ease Family Expenses |
New initiative shares child care costs among employees, employers, and the state |
Ohio has launched the Child Care Cred Program, a $10 million initiative designed to make child care more affordable for working families while assisting employers in retaining talent.
Under this program, child care expenses are divided: 40% by employees, 40% by employers, and 20% by the state. Employers have the option to cover part or all of the employee's share if they choose.
To qualify, families must reside in Ohio with household incomes between 200% and 400% of the federal poverty line. Employers must be based in Ohio. Families already enrolled in the state's Child Care Choice Voucher Program or recipients of the Early Childhood Education Grant are not eligible.
Applications are accepted through May 1, 2026, and will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. Approved families can enroll their children in licensed programs or continue with their current providers while receiving financial assistance.
Governor Mike DeWine emphasized the program's dual benefits: "Reliable child care ensures more productive employees." DCY Director Kara Wente added, "Child care isn't just a family issue; it's a workforce issue."
State Representative Mark Johnson highlighted the program's role in building stronger partnerships between families and businesses, while Senator Michele Reynolds called it "a significant step in solving Ohio's child care crisis."
